What to tell families when referring
"Happy Talkers is an integrated therapy clinic in the Tri-Valley that's been here since 2001. They provide speech, occupational, and behavioral therapy, as well as developmental evaluations, and they accept most major commercial insurance including Kaiser. I'm sending a referral — they'll contact you within a day to get started."
We accept referrals from all medical providers — a formal clinical summary is helpful but not required to initiate. We will follow up with you (with family consent) after intake evaluation is complete.

When a child needs clinical services beyond what school can provide — or when evaluation, early intervention, or transition planning points toward outside therapy — Happy Talkers is the coordinated next step.

School psychologists Special education teachers Resource specialists (RSPs) Early Start service coordinators Preschool & TK/K teachers School-based SLPs & OTs Program specialists Inclusion specialists Infant/toddler specialists Head Start coordinators Child find teams District administrators
IEP identifies outside therapy needs
Child needs speech (birth–10 yrs), OT (birth–10 yrs), or behavioral support (ABA, ages 18 mo–8 yrs) beyond what school services can provide
Clinical ASD evaluation needed
IEP team recommends a clinical ADOS-2 evaluation — we offer ADOS-2 (launching soon, ages 18 mo–8 yrs) and share results with school teams with family consent
Transitioning out of Early Start (age 3)
Children aging out of California Early Start services need continuity of care — we coordinate with families and RCEB to ensure no gap in services at the transition

Child needs more intensive support than school provides
When school services are appropriate but insufficient — we provide clinical-level frequency and multidisciplinary coordination outside of school hours

What to tell families when referring
"Happy Talkers is a clinical therapy program in the Tri-Valley that works alongside school services — they're not a replacement for what we do here, they're an addition to it. They provide speech, OT, and behavioral therapy, they accept most major commercial insurance and work with Regional Center, and they'll communicate with our team here if you give consent. They've been in the community since 2001."
For Early Start coordinators specifically
"Happy Talkers is RCEB-vendorized for speech, OT, infant development, and social skills. If you're planning a transition at age 3 or placing a child in services, we coordinate directly with your team on authorization and scheduling. Vendor numbers: Speech & OT PB1225, IDP HB0732, Social Skills PB4768."
We share evaluation summaries, care plans, and progress notes with school-based teams when families consent — supporting IEP development, annual reviews, and transition planning.

Happy Talkers is vendorized through RCEB for three service areas. We work directly with service coordinators on authorization, scheduling, and care coordination — your authorization is all we need to begin.
